Tanner Lee Ivy, age 30, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2019 in Murphy, North Carolina. He was born September 22, 1988 in Nederland, Texas to Jeffery Davis Ivy and Tracy Lynn Gothia.
It is hard to sum up such a sweet spirit in a paragraph. Tanner was a gifted musician, doting uncle, loyal friend and brother, and loving son, cousin, and grandson. A man of few words, when he used them, he meant them, and his wit, humor, and laugh will be deeply missed. He touched so many lives without ever knowing it- and had a special, quiet way that calmed and soothed others. His music and gentle nature embraced everyone he met like a warm hug. Tanner, we will continue your song, your light, your love in our hearts.
Tanner is survived by his parents, Jeffery Ivy of Nederland, Texas and Tracy Ivy of Groves, Texas, grandparents, Joan Ivy of Nederland, Texas, Gene Arnaud of Groves, Texas, Betty Canfil of Beaumont, Texas and Patty Gothia of Crystal Beach, Texas, his brother, Josh Ivy and fiancé, Courtney Blanton of Port Neches, Texas; his sisters, Ashlynn Ivy and fiancé, Christopher Tamez of Houston, Texas, Sara Tomplait and husband, Aaron Tomplait of Groves, Texas, Hannah Lumpkin and husband, Philip Lumpkin of Bridge City, Texas, and his nephews and niece, and loved ones from North Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2019 at MountainView Church in Murphy, North Carolina.

Jerry Ford Colbert, age 72 of Murphy, NC passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late Vardy and Louise Gaston Colbert. Jerry was a US Army veteran during the Vietnam War. He attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Colbert; four daughters, Evelyn Carr and husband Ronnie, Jeryl Lynn Holbrook and husband Harold, Jr., Celnah Colbert and Michael D. Simpson and Dawn Colbert and Robert Earl McCullough III; two sisters, Hazel Bowman and Mary Hall; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. John Paul Webb, Rev. Lois Grant and Elder Thelena Turner will officiate. Music will be provided by Farrah Eller. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites being conducted by the American Legion Post #96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville, NC and the Marine Corp League Marble, NC. Pallbearers will be Zeke Johnson and Kevin Nicely.

Mary St. Pierre, 72, of Hayesville passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at her residence. She was a native of Boston, Massachusetts. Mary was co-owner of St. Pierre’s Wood Pottery in both Massachusetts and North Carolina alongside her late husband. She taught basket weaving at the John C. Campbell Folk School. She volunteered for the Clay County Sheriff’s Department. Mary was a board member with the Clay County Chamber of Commerce and an officer with the Tusquittee Community Center. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville, but was attending the Tusquittee Church of God. Mary was known for wearing purple. She was a self-appointed ambassador to the community and had a special talent for knowing everyone by name.
She was the daughter of the late Charles Warren and Margaret McLeod Stiles and the wife of the late Robert Arthur St. Pierre, who died June 14, 2013. She was also preceded in death by a son, Christopher St. Pierre; and two brothers, Richard and Robert Stiles.
Surviving are her husband, Sam Roach; two step-sons, Jonathan St. Pierre Sr. and wife, Ann of Haverhill, Massachusetts and Stephen St. Pierre Sr. and wife, Carol of Hampstead, New Hampshire; a sister, Katherine Glynn of Windsor, Connecticut; a brother, Greg Stiles of Wareham, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, Tyler St. Pierre, Jessie Boucher, Jolene St. Pierre, Jerilyn Smith, Jonathan St. Pierre Jr., Mallory St. Pierre, and Stephen St. Pierre Jr.; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2019 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Mr. Carl Hubbell and Rev. Curt Ledford officiating.

Dewey L. Moss: Obituary

Dewey L. Moss, 78, of Marble passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019 in a Chattanooga, Tennessee hospital. He was a native of Marble and had proudly served in the United States Navy. Dewey worked as a welder and spent nearly 20 years working in the Washington D.C. area in tunnel construction. He also lived in various other places throughout his life. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 0085 in Arlington, Virginia. Dewey enjoyed collecting antiques and was an avid flea marketer. He also enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and loved spending time with his family and grandkids.
He was the son of the late Fred Lee and Pauline Pendergrass Moss. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Moss.
Surviving are three daughters, Lisa Moss Hedden and husband, Jonathan of Andrews, Cindie Hahn and husband, Bob of Florida, and Jennifer Moss of West Virginia; a son, Steven Moss and wife, Lisa of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Jean Hawke and husband, Robert of Durango, Mexico, and Debbie Hogan and husband, Johnny of Marble; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Rev. Patrick O’Dell officiating. The interment was in Moss Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Murphy American Legion Post 96, Hayesville VFW Post 6812, and Hayesville American Legion Post 532. Pallbearers were Jeffrey Moss, Knox Chapman, Lynn, Johnny, and Jean Pendergrass, and Gerald Hedden. Honorary pallbearers were Landan and Tanner Hedden, Jamil Madrid, and Drew Hahn.
The family received friends from 12-1:45 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Dewey L. Moss to the American Legion Post 96, PO Box 712, Murphy, NC 28906.

Harry George Tipton, age 70, of Brasstown, NC passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at his home.
He was a native of Clay County, NC and the son of the late Cecil Ralph and Alice Elizabeth Holland Tipton. Harry was a long haul freight truck driver. He enjoyed painting and writing poems.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Ralph Edward Tipton; and one brother, Edward (Ed) Tipton.
He is survived by two sons, Jason Eugene Tipton and Anthony (Tony) Tipton both of Warne, NC; two brothers, William (Bill) Tipton and wife Barbara of Brasstown, NC and James (Jim) Tipton and wife Jean of Kingsport, TN; one sister, Jane Bristol of Lawrenceville, GA; two grandchildren, Kristen Dunahoo and Brittany Taylor Tipton; four nieces, Donna Tipton Rogers, Kathy Tipton, Kristi Tipton Stewart and Kimberly Tipton.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Cordia Ramsey, age 102 of Murphy, NC passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Murphy Rehab & Nursing.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County and the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret Carder Gibson. Cordia worked at the Hitchcock Talc Mines. She loved to sew, gardening and flowers. She was a member of South End Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, James Ramsey; infant son, Max Ramsey and one sister, Ruby Harris.
She is survived by two sons, Walter Ramsey and wife Faye of Dalton, GA and Merlin Ramsey of Tomotla community; one daughter, Lenna Ruth Gasque of Rock Hill, SC; one sister, Ruth Jackson of Blue Ridge, GA; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm, Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Phillip Williams and Lenna Gasque will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Mt. Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Christopher Terry Beaver, age 57 of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Christopher was born September 7, 1961 in Murphy, NC to the late Willard Beaver and the late Virtle McRae Beaver. A member of Hanging Dog Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Willard Beaver, Jr., and sister, Bonnie Day. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading articles on his computer and reading books.
Survivors include son, Christopher T. Beaver, Jr., sister, Loretta (Vincent) Rhodes, brother, Eddie (Jeanie) Beaver, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Owl Creek Church with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating.

Marjorie June Price, age 82 of Andrews passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at North East Georgia Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late David Arthur and Carrie Owsley Fannin.
Mrs. Price worked as a secretary for the State of Florida. She loved to cook, camping and the outdoors, painting and loved her family and friends. Marjorie attended Tuskeegee Baptist Church for many years and later attended Marble Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, George “Bill” Price; son, Michael Price of Warne; daughters, Tammie Rutkosky of Robbinsville and Jeanetta Brady and husband Preston of Marble; grandchildren, Christopher Brady and wife Heather, Derek Rutkosky, Drew Rutkosky and wife Jennifer, Jessica Price and Phillip Watts and wife Amber; great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Kynsley Brady, Acacia, Harper, Kellan and Hollyn Rutkosky, Brodie Gruber and Lana and Kaylie Watts and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Phillip James Marcus, age 76 of Murphy, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital.
He was the son of the late Robert Clinton and Lucille Sexton Marcus. Phillip was a US Army veteran. He was a self-employed logger. Phillip also worked at Cherokee Land Surveying and the Sirloin Steak House. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, playing bingo and board games and he loved to read. He was an active member of Owl Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Neil Marcus.
He is survived by his sisters, Susan Fowler of Hayesville and Ann Pirtle of San Antonio, TX; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 4 pm, Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Owl Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Randy Johnson will officiate. Music will be provided by the Owl Creek Baptist Church choir. Burial will be in the Owl Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Marcus, Kurt Marcus, Marcus Mauney, Kenneth Dockery, Gene Kephart and Neal Kephart. He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late J.C. and Mary Jane Franklin Palmer. Carl was owner and operator of Palmer Construction. He loved gardening, playing the guitar and singing, camping, dancing and riding horses. Carl loved his family and took great pride in being a provider for his family. He was a member of the Marble Springs Lodge #439 A.F. & A. M & the Eastern Star. Carl attended Tomotla Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Palmer.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Palmer; two sons, Carlos Palmer and Danny Palmer and wife Revonda; three daughters, Lottie Palmer and Doug Pendergrass, Cassey Conley and husband Robert and Noley Jean Sutton and husband “Whitey” Adam; two step-sons, Max and Rex Wilson; four brothers, J.C. Jr, Johnny, Dale “Butterball”, Ronnie and Donnie Palmer; seven sisters, Willie Anthony, Betty Watkins, Helen Pace, Sandra Pace, Judy Chastain, Connie Watkins and Janice Carringer; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Faye Lee Beaver, age 94, of Dewy Rose, GA and formerly of Murphy passed away at her residence.
She was a native of Cedar Town, GA and the daughter of the late Walter and Allie Little Dempsey. She was a self-employed interior decorator. Faye was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she had been the pianist.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, M.B. Dempsey; and sisters, Susie Redden, Ruth Brock, Eva Stevens and Betty Rawell.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold Beaver; daughter, Nata Kimbrough and husband Larry of Dewy Rose, GA; grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Pepper Wilson and Alleah Crawford; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC. Rev. Calvin Murphy and Rev. Sonny Beaver will officiate. Burial will be in the Violet Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was born in Aloja, Latvia to the late Karlis and Elza Spelman Lusis. Valdis was a US Army veteran. He retired from General Electrics in St. Petersburg, FL before moving to Hayesville 25 years ago.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lusis; son, Jeff Lusis and daughter, Sandra Knapp.

Jennifer Lynn Martin, age 47 of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at her home. Jennifer was born November 9, 1971 in Andrews, NC to Randall Davidson and Cathy Holloway Davidson. A member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church, Jennifer worked as an LPN. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, hiking and traveling. She was a talented singer and she loved to care for others.
Survivors include her parents, Randall and Cathy Davidson of Murphy, one son, Justin Martin of Murphy, two brothers, Jeffery Martin (wife Tracy) and Joseph Martin (wife Robin) one sister, Jeannie Pumphrey (husband Guy), one nephew, Jonathan Pumphrey, one niece, Sarah Martin and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Holloway Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Martin, Jonathan Pumphrey, Ray Gutierrez, Matt Gutierrez, Korey Eller and Brian Jackson.

Lou Montgomery Graves Ledford, age 97, of Murphy, NC passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Murphy Rehab and Nursing after an extended illness.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the daughter of the late Waysell and Birdie Hartness Montgomery. She was a seamstress most of her life retiring from Levi Strauss Company. She loved to quilt, work in her garden, canning her green beans and taking care of her farm animals. She enjoyed milking her cows and gathering eggs and most of all feeding her family from the fruits of her labor. She would churn her own butter and at one time sold butter, milk and eggs locally. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Garland Graves Sr (a WWII veteran) and Winfred Ledford; two sons, Jerry Graves and Jimmy Graves; one daughter, Juanita Killian; one grandson, Jeremy Graves; one brother, Ray Montgomery; and three sisters, Betty West, Edith Martin and Hazel Cornwell.
She is survived by sons, Garland Graves Jr. and wife Nina of Murphy, Johnny Graves and wife Debbie of Nokomis, FL and Jamie Graves and wife Suzie of Etowah, TN; sister-in-law, Barbara Graves of Andrews, NC; daughters, Judy Griggs and husband Robert of Murphy, NC, Janet West and husband William of Andrews, NC and Jackie Graves of Murphy, NC; one sister, Faye Hall of Murphy, NC; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Warren Golden and Dr. Eddis Dockery will officiate. Music will be provided by Kathy Gentry and Steve and Blanche Coleman. Burial will be in the Grape Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
