Clarkesville Man Arrested on Multiple Frauds

Murphy, NC—The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reports the December 11, 2021 arrest of Robert James Allen, a 63 year old male who listed a Clarksville Georgia address for numerous fraud charges as well as fugitive from justice.
In July 2021, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office began a joint investigation with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office into allegations that Allen had fraudulently used the checking account of a deceased person to obtain funds from local businesses in Cherokee and Clay counties in North Carolina.
This particular investigation involved several thousand dollars of loss to a local merchants where Allen had cashed the checks. The investigation revealed that Allen has a past history of obtaining funds by fraud in North Carolina, Oklahoma and Georgia and was currently wanted in other states on similar charges which he apparently fled from.
Allen is currently in the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $90,000.00 secure bond for the following charges: FORGERY OF INSTRUMENT X 3, UTTERING FORGED INSTRUMENT X3, OBTAIN PROPERTY FALSE PRETENSE X 3, and EXTRADITION/FUGITIVE OTHER STATE X 3. Allen’s Cherokee County Court date is January 13, 2022.
Chief Deputy Joe Wood stated “Great team work by Cherokee and Clay County Sheriff’s Offices in getting Allen to justice. As mentioned this is not the first time Allen has been charged with these particular charges.”
