Tennessee fugitive arrested following chase

MURPHY, N.C. — Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the April 25, 2018, arrest of Mason Kelly Nykolajcuyk, a 26-year-old Bradley County, Tennessee, fugitive who was captured following a lengthy chase in and around Murphy, North Carolina, during the noon-time hour.
A little after 11:30 a.m. April 25, 2018, Lt. Wood with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division spotted a vehicle matching the description of a wanted vehicle, which had been involved in an incident in Polk County, Tennessee, the previous day during which a Polk County Deputy was stabbed. At the time, the vehicle was just west of Murphy on U.S. Hwy. 64 and headed west.
As Lt. Wood began following the vehicle to make an investigative stop, the vehicle pulled off the side of the road and then fled back east. During the chase, the vehicle reached speeds above 80 mph often times in crowded business areas as well as in residential areas, which included an elementary school. Additionally, the driver was driving erratically, which included driving in the east bound lane of U.S. Hwy. 19 near the Murphy High School into oncoming traffic, and at times almost struck pedestrians in the area as well as striking two law enforcement vehicles and attempting to strike other law enforcement vehicles.
At one point in the chase, a unit from Murphy Police Department set up and deployed stop sticks, which damaged one or two of the vehicle’s tires; however, Nykolajcuyk continued his high speed flight. Shortly after Nykolajcuyk entered a small two-lane road in the Texana Community of Cherokee County, Lt. Wood was able to utilize a pit maneuver to disable the vehicle, at which time Nykolajcuyk was captured.
Nykolajcuyk is currently incarcerated in the Cherokee County Detention Center. Nykolajcuyk is charged with Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest, Felony Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vechile. Nykolajcuyk is currently under a $100,000 secure bond and has a hold placed on him for pending out of state charges.

GEORGIA MEN ARRESTED AFTER HOME INVASION
Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the January 20, 2017 arrest of 20 year old Christian Pelicie-Mederos, 23 year old Selburn Abraham Ridley, 19 year old Monte Terrell Stewart, 19 year old Chevez Jamar Herron, and 23 year old Marquez Deshaun Hall, all who reported Atlanta Georgia addresses, for charges stemming from a home invasion in the Andrews Community on January 19th, 2017.
At about 9:45 pm January 19th, 2017 the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence north of Andrews North Carolina to a report of shots fired. As the responding deputy was arriving in the area the vehicle that had been described containing the individuals that had broken into a residence was found disabled on the roadway. The vehicle was occupied by the five individuals and upon the approach of the responding deputy two of the individuals fled on foot. Two officers with the Andrews Police Department, additional deputies and investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrived and all five of the individuals were apprehended. Among the items seized at the scene was firearms, illegal controlled substances and a large amount of U.S. currency.
Pelicie-Medros, Ridley, Stewart, Herron and Hall were all booked into the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for ROBBERY WITH DANGEROUS WEAPON, ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, FIRST DEGREE BURGLARY, and RESISTING PUBLIC OFFICER. All five are currently housed at the Cherokee County Detention Center under $100,000.00 secure bond. Herron has an additional $100,000.00 secure bond for charges from another incident in Clay County during 2016.
Sheriff Palmer stated “We have not completed our investigation but have some good indication why these individuals were in Cherokee County. We are continuing our investigation and are checking additional leads and information. I want to thank the officers of the Andrews Police Department for their assistance. I would like to remind the public that we appreciate any assistance they can provide but highly discourage any activities that would place them in harm’s way!”

Murphy Man Indicted for Sexual Assaults on a Child

Murphy, NC — Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the November 16, 2016 arrest of 31 year old Robert John Tyndell, of Murphy North Carolina for Sexual Assaults involving a child.
In July of 2016 the Macon County Department of Social Services opened an investigation and reported to the Cherokee County Department of Social Services and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office allegations that Tyndell had sexually assaulted a child under the age of 12 at a Murphy North Carolina address. The initial disclosure was in Macon County North Carolina. The joint investigation was assisted by Kids Place Child Advocacy Center in Franklin North Carolina.
The investigation was presented to the November 14th, 2016 setting of the Cherokee County Grand Jury which handed down Indictments for Statutory First Degree Sex Offense of a Child, and two counts of Indecent Liberties with a child.
Tyndell was arrested at his Murphy North Carolina residence and incarcerated in the Cherokee County Detention Center. Tyndell is currently being held on a $250,000.00 secure bond and has a February 27th, 2017 Superior Court date.
Because of the age of the victims and the sensitive nature of the incident no further information is expected to be released from this office.
Sheriff Palmer stated “We want to thank all the agencies involved in this investigation. As always they are some of the most difficult to deal with. Cooperation is always the key in these types of investigations, and this is an excellent example of cooperation between several agencies getting justice for a very bad crime.”

Couple Arrested for Possessing Stolen Property

Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the June 28th, 2016 arrest of 35 year old David Shane Brown who gave a Topton North Carolina address and 28 year old Heather Mason Stewart who gave a Robbinsville North Carolina address for charges involving possessing stolen goods.
Investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Macon County Sheriff’s Office worked together on a joint investigation where Brown and Mason were stealing and having in their possession stolen goods from residences in Macon County North Carolina. During the joint investigation stolen items were identified and retrieved at a residence in Andrews North Carolina where the pair had been staying on and off. Brown and Stewart were arrested and brought to the Cherokee County Detention Center where they were charged with, felony Possession of Stolen Goods. Brown and Stewart were placed on a $10,000.00 secure bond awaiting a July 07th, 2016 District Court date. The investigation continues and additional charges are anticipated.

Murphy Woman Arrested for Felony Assault & Setting Fire to Home

Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the July 13th, 2016 arrest of 42 year Jennifer Dale Farmer who gave a Murphy North Carolina address for charges handed down from the July 11th, 2016 Grand Jury Session.
On March 26th, 2016 the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence in the Beaver Dam Community of Cherokee County to investigate a suspicious fire. During the investigation information was made known that one of the occupants of the residence had been burnt in the fire and had been flown to a burn hospital in Georgia because of the nature and severity of the injuries.
As the investigation continued information became known that indicated that Farmer was suspect in the crimes. That information was presented to the Cherokee County Grand Jury who handed down indictments for Assault With a Deadly Weapon with the Intent To Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and Fraudulently Burning of a Dwelling.
Farmer was served with the indictments and is currently in the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $150,000.00 secure bond awaiting a November 7th, 2016 Superior Court hearing.

MURPHY TRIO ARRESTED FOR DRUGS

Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the March 16th, 2016 arrest of 37 year old Joel Lee Trull, of Marble North Carolina, 23 year old Tasha Savannah Eller of Murphy North Carolina and 20 year old Breslin Drake Allen also of Murphy North Carolina for the illegal possession of controlled substances and child abuse. On March 16th, 2016 a report of a truck that was sitting up in the field behind the Cherokee County Department of Social Services Building was made to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
The report also stated that there were two males who appeared to be armed and were acting suspicious. The initial responding Deputy found the vehicle which was an extended cab pickup truck. Trull and Allen along with Trull’s minor child were found to be occupants in the vehicle. With the arrival of Sheriff Palmer, Chief Deputy Thigpen and Investigators a search of the vehicle was made which found a quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana as well as paraphernalia.
During the search it was found that syringes and methamphetamine were sitting in a bag within arm’s reach of Trull’s minor child. Eller was located at the Social Services building where she was transacting business. Trull was arrested and charged with MISDEMEANOR CHILD ABUSE, POSSESS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, POSSESS MARIJUANA PARAPHERNALIA, POSSESS METHAMPHETAMINE, SIMPLE POSSESS SCH VI CS. Trull was set a $10,000.00 unsecure bond and was released and is scheduled to appear in Cherokee County District Court on March 30th , 2016. Eller and Allen were also arrested and charged with POSSESS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, POSSESS METHAMPHETAMINE, SIMPLE POSSESS SCH VI CS.
Both were released on a $5,000.00 unsecure bond each and both are scheduled to appear on March 30th, 2016. Sheriff Palmer stated “These people are no stranger to the justice system for violations of the controlled substance laws. It is our duty to continue to protect our community and especially areas like the Department of Social Services so that it is safe for our children. This demonstrates the continued disregard for the safety of children when you have drugs and needles so close in proximity them.” Sheriff Palmer encourages any one that has information on this crime or any other to report it.
